Activities: Annual Empire State meat goat show, some market pooling activities in cooperation with private producers and the NE Sheep and Goat Marketing Program at Cornell, educational events throughout the year focusing on pertinent topics in meat goat management, cosponsor either a statewide goat field day or, in alternate years, Caprine Outing (a 3 day extension program) with Cornell Cooperative Extension, quarterly newsletter available through Country Folks, co-mail with the Cornell Animal Science Department a meat goat packet of information for new goat owners. Currently, we are organizing regional chapters of the ESMGPA to help facilitate marketing pooling and hands-on educational activities and increase feedback from local regions to the statewide association. We are also working with the NESGMP to develop plans on how our regional land grant universities, NY Ag and Markets, and other entities can best work with state and national producer groups to provide future marketing assistance to service the extensive lamb and goat meat demand along the Eastern seaboard. Our state hosts a marketing services directory for NE sheep and goat producers available on the web at www.sheepgoatmarketing.org. The advanced search for this directory at http://www.sheepgoatmarketing.org/cgi-bin/db2www/sgm/sgm.d2w/input allows producers to search for various buyers and processors by county, state, facilities, etc. Several members of ESMGPA are on the advisory board for the NESGMP and have provided input for the humane halal/kosher slaughter restrainers developed by the NESGMP, the halal knives recommended, and laminated poster on humane on-farm slaughter. The ESMGPA education committee has also helped develop several fact sheets on marketing goats, evaluating slaughter carcasses, care of winter born kids, etc.
