International
Tropical Animal Nutrition Conference
"TROPNUTRICON" - October 4-7, 2007
Organizers:
Animal Nutrition Society of India
National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal (India), www.nutrisocietyindia.com
Theme:
Animal Nutrition in India Tropics Constraints & Opportunities
India being largely a tropical country, is also a home for the largest
livestock wealth, having highest bovine population, and being second
highest in Goat population, third highest in sheep population and sixth
highest in poultry. Animal rearing forms part of the sustainable crop-livestock
integrated production system in tropics, including India. Animals are
kept mainly for the purpose of food security and poverty alleviation,
involving millions of small, landless and marginal farmers. Like most
of the tropical countries, India too has a severe shortage of animal
feeds. With a growing demand for foods of animal origin even in a newly
developing societies, animal production assumes a significant role,
in which feeding involves the major expenditure, about 60-70-% of the
total rearing cost. Last two decades have seen a lot more efforts being
made in the tropical countries to generate newer feed resources and
improve the efficiencies of the existing inferior feeds like crop residues
and agro industrial byproducts, which form the bulk of feeds available
for animal feeding. There is a need to assess the progress made so far
in feeds and feeding systems in tropics and to discuss the strategies
for future development.
Animal Nutrition Society of India:
Animal Nutrition Society of India (ANSI) was established in
1982 and since then it has been functioning as a n apex body in the
country to provide directions for animal nutrition research and its
application in feed industry. It regularly organizes biennial conferences,
annual regional workshops and brings out the quarterly journal “Indian
Journal of Animal Nutrition”. The Society is going to complete
25 years of its existence in 2007, and thus, coinciding with the silver
Jubilee Celebrations, an International Nutrition Conference is also
being organized.
Venue of the Conference:
The Society has mostly been operating from Dairy Cattle Nutrition
(DCN) Division of National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), at Karnal.
A unique Deemed University in Dairying, NDRI is the premier Institution
for dairying research (production, processing and management) and dairy
education in the country. Thus, the Institute has been aptly selected
as the venue for the International Conference, as it possesses infrastructure
and the support system to organize such a conference.
