2009 Country Report from MalaysiaSent in by Dr. C. Devendra, IGA Country Representative
On the technical side, Malaysia along with several countries in S.E. Asia and China are going through a difficult phase with the development of the goat sector. The reasons for this are associated inter alia with several factors: waning agriculture, uncontrolled excessive imports of live animals, exorbitant prices, high demand for goat meat, lack of clear production objectives, trans-border diseases, and lack of priorities and policies.
Some discussions and rationalization are underway to improve the situation with some progress, but they will take time. It is not something worthy of reporting at this stage. Tuesday January 5, 2010
